Right now, it is more important than ever for us to be doing anti-carceral work of all kinds. It is also increasingly heavy work, and impossible to do in isolation.
Work-in Wednesdays are a recurring, weekly Zoom session meant to help build a mutually supportive community for anthropologists doing abolitionist work of any kind, whether that’s anti-carceral research and writing, prison teaching, pedagogy, or community activism. The aim is to hold a designated community space to energize, lean on, and support each other in whatever anti-carceral work we're independently doing.
At each session, we will start with 15-20 minutes of checking in and catching up, including any calls to action, asks for support, editing requests--whatever anyone needs from the group to get started. Then, we will have 45 minutes of parallel work time, followed by a closing 15-20 minutes of final check-ins. The only "rule" is that whatever you're working on contributes to some kind of anti-carceral project, whether academic or otherwise.
People are also welcome to continue the co-working time for as long as they'd like, but the goal is to have a minimum of one session per week of protected time for abolitionist work and community building.
You'll need to register to get the passcode and link, but once you have it, it will be the same for every future session. No need to RSVP or anything for each week, just show up when you'd like to connect. Feel free to email Rebekah (Rebekah.Ciribassi@sai.uio.no) or Trishna (tsenapaty@pugetsound.edu) if you have any issues or questions.
Work-In sessions are every Wednesday, starting February 26th, 2025.
